Bamboo does not equal rayon

When you read through the blogs I write you will see quite frequently the wording ‘bamboo fabric.’ Bamboo fabric is an eco-friendly fabric that helps you naturally retain heat, naturally repeal stains, and naturally repel orders. But if you have recently purchased anything made of bamboo fabric then please read closely.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, or FTC, 78 letters have gone out to retailers across the country warning that the use of the phrase ‘bamboo fabric’ is being abused and used to describe items that are actually made of rayon. Included in the batch of those receiving the letters are such big retail names as Target, J.C. Penny, and Wal-Mart.
This misleading, the FTC feels, may be going on by retailers in an effort to gain the eco-friendly persuasion, but in reality it is a flat out lie. Rayon is a man made material and is created using some cellulose found in certain plants such as bamboo, but the fact that rayon is produced using toxic chemicals really disqualifies it as an eco-friendly fashion.
The FTC says that it will begin fining companies up to $16,000 if the practices continue. EcoZeal.com reminds everyone that while it is indeed good to be of the eco-savvy nature, you still need to stay vigilant and ask plenty of questions. It is a sad fact that these retailers have to play in such grey area, but the fact is that they have so we must all be on the lookout.
