Boys in blue go green

Some of the boys –and girls- in blue are going green. While not the original intent of the Portsmouth Police Department, it is now said that over two thirds of the officers on duty are wearing a new kind of eco-friendly soft shelled jacket that is made using recycled plastic bottles.
The jackets, which only cost around $40 a piece, areactually said to warmer that the traditional and less eco-friendly jackets that the department used before. Officials admit that the low cost and high quality of the jackets is indeed what drew the interest of the department and that the fact that the jackets are also an eco-friendly fashion is just a wonderful and unexpected bonus.
Looking at the jackets you cannot really tell a difference between them and the less Earth savvy ones that the department had been wearing. In fact several officers said they had no idea the jackets were so eco-friendly until they looked at the tags. This is just further proof that eco-friendly fashion does not have to be ugly-friendly fashion.
EcoZeal.com hopes that other police departments across the country will take note and do what the Portsmouth force is doing and go green…even if they aren’t meaning too.
