So you want to be more eco-friendly when you get your clothes dry cleaned and you decide to go with an organic dry cleaner. How organic is that exactly? Turns out, not so much.

Even organic dry cleaners can use one of the most common chemicals in dry cleaning called perchlorothylene, aka perc, because in the terms of what is and isn’t organic in dry cleaning it all goes bycarbon based not chemical based. Organic can also mean that the dry cleaner is certified by the International Fabric Institute, but even that doesn’t mean that the store that carries the designation doesn’t use perc. So what do you do?

The best way to avoid using chemicals is to begin to purchase more eco-friendly fashions that do not require dry cleaning but if that isn’t an option for you then ask your dry cleaner what it is exactly that they use. If you find that they are using too many chemicals for your liking, then find a different dry cleaner that isn’t using so many.
