Old sweater + $30 = eco-friendly

Did you just get an awful looking sweater for the holidays and you didn’t get the receipt to return it? Maybe you have a sweater or two in the closet that you no longer want and you just can’t bring yourself to throw them away. Well now there is a solution to your problem – Reknit.
Reknit is an idea that was conjured up by a graphic designer and it is a great way to upcycle your old or unwanted sweaters and get something cool and eco-friendly in return. With Reknit, you send in your old unwanted sweater and for just $30.oo –including return shipping- you will get a handmade one of a kind knitted item. This month Reknit is doing scarves just in time for the chilly weather.
The graphic designer, Haik Avanian, actually has his mom do the knitting as he facilitates the whole plan. EcoZeal.com thinks this is a wonderful way to get more use out of your old items and get something back that is both a nice fashion statement and green.
While you are in the process of sending off your old sweater to Haik and his mom be sure you don’t send all of your old sweaters at once. First of all you don’t need that many new scarves and as mentioned, next month Haik’s mom will be knitting something new. Best of all you can vote on what you would like to see her knit. Call it upcycling or recycling clothing, but either wat it is just plain fun!
