Retail giant Wal-Mart currently has over 100,000 suppliers and it is now making some demands of those suppliers. Wal-Mart is now in an ongoing green effort and is asking its suppliers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 million metric tons in the next five years.

While Wal-Mart is not saying that this is mandatory they are acknowledging that those who work with them will be duly rewarded. These greenhouse emissions reductions can come in the way of how products are made by using more eco-friendly materials in clothing for example, to ensuring that the vehicles that deliver the goods are more eco-savvy.

While Wal-Mart has been working with its electronic suppliers on this initiative for some time now, this represents the first that they are reaching out to all of their suppliers. If they are successful in their plan Wal-Mart says that the results will be the same as taking 3.8 million cars off the road each year.
