Each and every year there are approximately 3.5 million clothes hangers that end up going to the landfill. These hangers are either plastic, wire, or the plastic and metal ones that you get when you buy cloths at a department store. None of these are very eco-friendly and certainly not very biodegradable.

The solution is finding eco-friendly fashion hangers that are comprised of materials that are a bit nicer to the Earth. Some companies manufacture eco-friendly hangers that are made out of bamboo. These types of green hangers are meant to be sustainable and will hang your eco-savvy clothes for many years, but what about the throwaways?

There are also companies that make durable cardboard hangers that in reality should be used by all the dry cleaners and of the world. While the metal hangers that dry cleaners usually give out are thrown out, once again they are not biodegradable. However, if the dry cleaners of the planet would start using the cardboard throwaways then a much more eco-friendly impact would be felt as cardboard can either be recycled or at the very least is much more biodegradable then the wire ones.

You can also be sure to not take home the hangers that the department stores give you with the clothing that you buy there. If you leave them at the store there is a good chance that they may be reused and not thrown out.

EcoZeal.com urges everyone to take a look in their closets and see what your organic cotton shirt is hanging on. What about your hemp shirt? Your organic silk shirt? The point is, if they are hanging on hangers that are not Earth-friendly then you are totally contradicting yourself.
